What makes a book Dyslexia Friendly

We are very proud at Books for Bugs to be stocking Barrington Stoke books. We found these books when looking for something for our own son (Bug3) who really struggled with reading. Well all I can say is they are amazing! We went from having a stressed out, virtually non reader to a willing, happy reader in a very short space of time. For us it was the spread out text that really helped and more importantly the fact that the content of these books were of interest to him. Previously he was reading books for far younger children which put him off further. To be able to read what he considered a ‘real’ chapter book for his age gave him much needed confidence.

Bug3 isn’t diagnosed as dyslexic, I think for him it was more a reluctant reader situation. When he was younger he wanted to concentrate on other things mainly sport and outdoor activities, he never really sat still long enough for reading so quickly got a bit left behind! But these books did the trick. He is never going to be a bookworm like his brothers but he can now read with ease and that is 100% down to these books.

But what makes these books Dyslexia and Reluctant Reader Friendly? How are they different to a standard chapter book?
